This assignment was an adaptation of the Morrisons Building project.
This project is a response to a speculative scenario of Sarah Lucas' residency within the Morrisons' Building, Garrett st, Wellington. Sarah Lucas is a British artist who works with mainly sculpture and photography, confronting ideas of the sexual human body.
Entering the building, you are welcomed by a joyous wall of yellow felt that reaches up to the top of the building. The ground floor is a gallery space and Lucas' studio, where the community encounters her work. The first floor is a casting workshop area, with public and private plaster casting spaces - where classes can be held. The second floor is a place for exchanging knowledge that surrounds her work, as well as Lucas' accommodation. The building has a cohesive theme of eggs - a recurring subject matter of her sculptures and self-portraits. Altogether, this creates an amusing and active interior in which the Te Aro community can engage in.
